Personal Computer (PC)
A Personal Computer (PC) is a computer whose initial selling price, size and capabilities make it useful for individuals, and which is intended to be operated directly by an end user, without operator intervention.
Today, a PC May be a desktop, laptop or tablet computer. Most often, operating systems are Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, while the most common are compatible x86 microprocessor CPU. However, the term "PC" is often used to refer only to computers running Microsoft Windows. The applications software for personal computers include word processing, spreadsheet, database, games, and a myriad of personal productivity and use of software. The modern personal computers often have high-speed or connections to the Internet, allowing access to the World Wide Web and a wide range of other resources.
A PC May be a computer at home, May or be found in an office, often linked to a local area network. The distinguishing characteristics are that the computer is mainly used, interactive, by a person at a time. This is in contrast with batch processing or time-sharing models that allowed large expensive systems to be used by many people, usually at the same time, or large data processing systems, which requires a staff full time to function effectively.
If the beginning of PC owners tend to write their own programs to do anything useful with machines, today's users have access to a wide range of communications and free software that is easy to install.
