Personal Computer (PC)

A Personal Computer (PC) is a computer whose initial selling price, size and capabilities make it useful for individuals, and which is intended to be operated directly by an end user, without operator intervention.

Today, a PC May be a desktop, laptop or tablet computer. Most often, operating systems are Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, while the most common are compatible x86 microprocessor CPU. However, the term "PC" is often used to refer only to computers running Microsoft Windows. The applications software for personal computers include word processing, spreadsheet, database, games, and a myriad of personal productivity and use of software. The modern personal computers often have high-speed or connections to the Internet, allowing access to the World Wide Web and a wide range of other resources.

A PC May be a computer at home, May or be found in an office, often linked to a local area network. The distinguishing characteristics are that the computer is mainly used, interactive, by a person at a time. This is in contrast with batch processing or time-sharing models that allowed large expensive systems to be used by many people, usually at the same time, or large data processing systems, which requires a staff full time to function effectively.

If the beginning of PC owners tend to write their own programs to do anything useful with machines, today's users have access to a wide range of communications and free software that is easy to install.

modern computers

The first devices that resemble modern computers date to the mid-20th century (around 1940 - 1945), although the concept of computer and various machines similar to computers existed before. The small electronic computers were the size of a large room, consume more energy than several hundred modern personal computers. [1] Modern computers are based on tiny integrated circuits and millions to billions of times more likely to occupation while a fraction of space. [2] Today, simple computers May be small enough to fit in a wristwatch and be powered by a battery standby. Personal computers, in various forms, are icons of the information age and are what most people think of as "a computer", but the most common form of computers in use today east-board computer. Embedded computers are small, simple devices that are used for controlling other devices - for example, May they be found in machines from fighter jets of industrial robots, digital cameras, and toys for children.

The ability to store and execute lists of instructions called the curricula of computers makes it extremely versatile and distinguishes them from calculators. The Church-Turing thesis is a mathematical statement of this versatility: any computer with a certain minimum capacity is, in principle, be able to perform the same tasks as any other computer can execute. Therefore, computers with the capacity and complexity from that of a personal digital assistant to a supercomputer are all capable of performing the same tasks of calculation given enough time and storage capacity.
